Christopher Guest directs and shares writing credit in this mockumentary about a reunion of three fictional folk music groups for a memorial concert to a record producer. With good acting and a tongue-in-cheek story, this ironic picture is full of good music and jokes delivered with deadpan deadliness.

Sandra Oh stars in this obscure Canadian independent movie as Jade, a young Chinese-Canadian woman caught between her extremely demanding family, her budding career as an actress, and her growing relationship with a white Canadian guy. It doesn’t take long for this to devolve into stereotypes and tired clichés.
IMDB: Double Happiness.

A motley collection of gamers who take this stuff far too seriously engage in a live action role playing game to take control of the “kingdoms” surrounding Baltimore. This documentary follows the exploits of a couple of warring factions of geeks as they comically try their hand at medieval combat.
IMDB: Darkon.

This cute, although sometimes a little saccharin, fairy tale about a privileged girl who comes to a New York boarding school is perfect for a family movie night, especially one with young girls in the audience. While a little bit Cinderella-like, this well-realized fantasy is a sweet diversion.
IMDB: A Little Princess.

This is the longest two hour movie of all time, consisting primarily of a group of rich New England socialites arguing and complaining about life. With a cast that includes the legendary Katharine Hepburn, this noisy melodrama is an endurance event of glaring tedium, raging shouting matches, and bored hostility.
IMDB: A Delicate Balance.

While this movie had a few funny chuckle-inducing moments, this idiotic comedy about an Israeli commando who moves to New York to become a hairdresser falls completely flat and hits the sidewalk with a resounding thud. Adam Sandler joins Jon Turturro and Rob Schneider in this hummus-covered mess.

A very young Don Johnson wanders around a post-apocalyptic wasteland in search of women and food, accompanied by an annoying talking dog. This directionless snorefest features a mixture of desert survivalism, an underground caricature of small town America, and a unquenchable quest for hot girls. Don’t waste your time.
