Ben Sowton teams up with guest DJ Rollercone on another fairly decent Bargrooves deep house compilation. There are lots of really great tracks here, but a few of the selections have infuriating spoken word vocals that frankly ruin the excellent grooves behind them—especially on tracks like Nothing Like Jazz.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney co-star in this beautifully written character study, about a pair of siblings who have to move their ailing father across the country. The acting and script in this Oscar-nominated drama are stellar. The serious subject matter is tempered by plenty of smart comedy.
IMDB: The Savages.

With all of the production value of a Disney after school special and an inexplicably accomplished cast, this historical piece ineptly attempts to detail the story of the Mountain Meadows massacre, while attempting to draw parallels between the radical group of Mormons of 1857 and that other September 11 tragedy.
IMDB: September Dawn.

Randy Daytona, a washed up child prodigy at ping pong, is recruited by the FBI to help nab a crime lord, played by Christopher Walken. The story is a parody of Bloodsport, except with ping pong, and features some funny moments amid a barrage of predictable lameness and deplorable acting.
IMDB: Balls of Fury.

This live action science fiction film, based on an anime feature from the 1970s, shows how effectively computer generated backdrops, beautiful costumes, gorgeous colors, and good live action choreography can blend together in an astonishing experience. The adventure is always exciting and the backdrop is very obviously influenced by steampunk.
IMDB: Casshern.
