David Hurst (Campbell Scott) is a quiet, serious dentist who shares an office with his wife, Dana (Hope Davis). He suspects her of having an affair, which erodes his mental stability. This character-driven drama is effective, although sleepy, with a solid script and decent casting from the B List.

Steve Carell stars in this hilarious and raunchy comedy, written by Carell and Judd Apatow, leading a cast of Apatow regulars, including Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Leslie Mann. The love story between Andy, the virgin, and Trish, his love interest, is endearing and Andy’s foibles are pure comedy gold.

Grade: A.

The rise to power of Temudjin, who became known as Genghis Khan, is told in magnificent style in this historical epic about the beginnings of the greatest empire in history. With absolutely stunning cinematography and astonishing fight sequences, this foreign picture brings an amazing story to life with perfect execution.

Frank Allen is a buttoned-up productivity guru, whose wife throws him out of whack by screwing up his schedule. His highly regimented life unravels around him with sometimes hilarious consequences. A poignant screenplay, good directing, a quirky story, and believable acting make this character-driven midlife crisis picture unforgettable.

This epic television series, running for two seasons, follows the time line of the end of the Roman Republic, from Caesar’s conquest of Gaul through the victory of Octavian. Astonishing acting performances, a gorgeous backdrop, and tight storytelling make this essential for any history buff—perfect for many repeated viewings.

Stacey Keach plays in the starring role, a quiet officer who suffers from constant nightmares. The story lags a little bit in the middle, but twists unexpectedly to its conclusion.

In this inexplicable family drama starring Anthony Quinn, Jesus Sanchez spends a large proportion of his time in this ineptly-filmed cacophony. The story drags eternally, weighing in at two trudging hours of terrible captions and insufferable hollering. Utterly unforgettable, this time waster is best left in the rental store.

In this version of the iconic Bargrooves collection, DJ Ben Sowton mixes both CDs of this fist-pumping set of house tracks. The first CD is full of deep, funky soulful grooves. The second disk steps into electro and tech house territory with an amazing set of thumping crowd pleasers.
