In this very original World War II drama, a group of female soldiers is sent to occupy an anti-aircraft gun position near in Karelia and encounter a group of German paratroopers. The DVD transfer of this compelling war picture is spotty, with inconsistent dubbing, but is well worth renting.

Grade: B.

This very low budget ISA-winning drama, the directorial and writing of Mario de la Vega, intertwines three stories that happen along the Mexican border into one sometimes wandering character study. While full of interesting interplay between the characters and gritty, believable dialogue, often this piece feels trudgy, slow, and meandering.

Grade: C.

IMDB: Robbing Peter.

In this strange independent movie, a homeless computer technician is mistaken for a famous film director by an aged actress. Grade: B-.

IMDB: Sunday.
